KAREN LOUISE LAWRIE Peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, on Sunday, November 5, 2000 with her family at her side, Karen Louise, age 52 years, dearly beloved wife of Wayne, passed away at the Grace General Hospital. Karen was born on Wednesday, October 6, 1948 at the Fort Churchill Military Hospital in Churchill, Man. where her heart always remained and to where she will return. Karen settled and made her home in many communities - Whitehorse, Yukon, Salmon Arm, B.C., Hudson Bay, Sask., The Pas, Man., Winnipeg, Man., as well as Churchill. Wherever Karen made her home she volunteered her time on community committees such as the School Board, Royal Canadian Legion and Minor Hockey Associations. Her working career included hairdressing, Royal Canadian Legion, and homecare. She married Wayne, her childhood sweetheart in 1982 and devoted her time to taking care of her family. Karen had a special love of life, giving so much of herself to everyone she met. No stranger remained one for long-everyone became a friend. Left to cherish Karens memory are her loving husband Wayne; sons, Ryan (Tamara) and Riston and Madisson of Whitehorse, Yukon, and Grant of Winnipeg; stepchildren, Gavin (Trisha) and Samantha and Bo of Winnipeg; Sherri Widen (Drew), and Keiffer and Danielle of Vancouver; ReJean Lawrie and Barry Lawrie also of Vancouver, relatives and countless friends. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Harold and Greta Reid; stepfather Reg Wilson; brother Randy Reid and stepdaughter Norma Lawrie. Family, friends and even acquaintances will always remember the strength with which she faced her challenges by comforting others with her caring concern and wonderful sense of humour. Cremation has already taken place. A Celebration of Karens life will be held on Saturday, November 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Knysh Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main St. Mr. Greg Stetski will officiate. Karens cremated remains will return to Churchill, Man. in the summer of 2001 to be laid to rest, in that place, she always called home. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Mulder, the staff at the Grace Hospital and special thanks to Louise Lawrie. Donations in Karens memory may be made to the Salvation Army.
